Google Rich Snippets – Review and Events

I have added event and review rich snippets to the venue pages and business pages on STVLocal. Rich snippets allow you to tag information within the page which Google can then take and use as part of the Search Engine Results Page. For a venue Google will pull out 3 events for that venue, giving the user detail of the event name, a link to the event, event start time and event address.

For businesses Google can show the businesses average rating, who last reviewed the business and average price for a meal.

Google does not guarantee that they will display this information, however if you don’t by a ticket you can’t win the lottery. If anyone ever sees any of the STVLocal pages in Google displaying the snippet information then please let me know.

High level figures for Google page weighting

Read this document about factors that contribute to your google ranking, its a very interesting piece and gets right down to the nitty grity.  It reminded me of a couple of figures that have been pitched to myself whilst managing a relationship with a well know SEO company.   The figures I am sharing are not as detailed as the ones provided by SEOmoz, however I think they have their usefulness when talking to the suits about why SEO is important and what as developers we need to do.
